I put this question to Flying Lab Software:
In recent weeks there has been quite a bit of server instability with the burningsea.com website, SOE services and the forums. for an mmo that's not even live yet there have been quite a few maintenance announcements also. What measures have you been putting in place to ensure that problems like this don't affect the launch?
Gray Noten, Flying Lab Software's Director of Operations had this to say: |

The title says it all really; Fileplanet founders get in first, a move likely to be controversial, but most people who want to be in beta probably already got in at the last stress test.
So Flying Lab are ready for everyone to see Pirates of the Burning Sea, and they're also ready for anyone to talk about what they see. We have entered a new exciting stage. |

The Pirates of the Burning Sea Non-Disclosure Agreement has now been lifted, so expect much more information to be released on previously restricted things:
Monday, December 3rd signals the end of the Pirates of the Burning Sea Non-Disclosure Agreement. This means that as of today, individuals are welcome to share their Pirates of the Burning Sea experiences with people around the world! We hope you will take this opportunity to draft a blog entry, forum post, or anything else in which you share your experiences as a captain of the Burning Sea.

Pending Announcement Is Delayed |

Friday, 30 November 2007 |
In a slightly disconcerting announcement, Aether has stated earlier today that the press release schedule has been pushed back, causing the announcements that Flying Lab had expected to make to be pushed back.
Aether has however taken time to point out that there will be an open beta for Pirates of the Burning Sea, and that some special considerations regarding that will be announced later.
Whether this will cause the long-standing NDA to be removed is unknown at this moment, but an open beta would imply so.
More when we know more. |

MMORPG_Taera: Kaeldjin :asks: When is scheduled the european pre-order?
FLS_Rev: I am very happy to say that we will be announcing the European preorder date later this week right alongside the open beta announcement. Our open beta will be global and the preorder will be in stores before Christmas.
In European stores, I mean.
So in just a few days, we'll cover the open beta, the European preorder date, and the fact that we're close to dropping our NDA as well. :)
See here. |

It has come to FLS's attention that some preorder boxes are missing the codes required to obtain the goodies promised; When asked if gamers had to return their preorder to the stores to resolve this, Aether had this reply:
Yes, that is exactly what you need to do friend. I'll make sure this information gets to the right people so that we can address it directly.
If you run into issues returning your game, I need you (or anyone else for that matter) to send me a note using our Support System at www.burningsea.com/support
Best,
Aether |

Warcry Network have talked to Kevin Maginn about launch, stress test and other things:
A lesson we learned from watching the release of other MMOs is 'you can only launch once.' What that means is that while you can promise features for post-release, you have to succeed or fail on the feature set you ship with.
