Rick Saada (EPFBM) has answered some intriguing questions about how the economy works on Keen and Graev’s Gaming Blog.
Each building can runs “recipes,” which take inputs of money, potentially goods and stored labor and uses them to produce outputs. The labor accumulates in real time, hour per hour, up to 3 days per structure. So when you visit the port where your structure is located (can’t run it remotely) you can use up any stored labor it has accumulated to run recipes.>

The Multiplayer Online Games Directory saw Pirates of the Burning Sea at ComiCon 2007, and had this to say:
I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed in what you find - and who knows, you might even realize that at heart you've always been a bit of a scallywag. Now you'll have an opportunity to explore that side of your personality without all of the potential financial risk and bodily harm.
very light in new info, but not bad.

Gavin "Snugglepants" Irby, PotBS mission designer, has spoken with Ten Ton Hammer about the player story arc:
With over 70 missions tucked away specifically for the RP story-arc, players won’t have to worry about running into the end of their player stories any time soon in their gameplay experiences. At that number of missions, players will have more than one story-based mission per level, but they’ll still be able to reach the end of their story-arc before the end of their play experience. “Players will have to jump between story-arc missions and regular missions, and it wasn’t our intention for players to play through the entire game on story missions alone,” Gavin stated. Still, 70 story missions is quite the achievement for a single person working on a huge amount of story.

Pirates of the Burning Sea has won Gamespot's Editor's Choice Award for best MMORPG at E3 2007!Anyone could have taken the typical massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) template, stuck pirates in it, and called it a day. But developer Flying Lab Software looks like it will combine playability with depth in Pirates of the Burning Sea, and the result is a fascinating take on 18th-century Caribbean exploits.

Adam Gubman Posts About Music |

There has been quite a lot of discussion on the PotBS official boards about the ringtones that were released last weekend, particularly the French one. Adam Gubman, one of the composers has posted a follow up.
Our idea and method for creating the POTBS soundtrack was about 50% period based compositional structure, 40% imagination and idealism, and 10% dumb luck. Jeff and I, being trained composers, are really hip to period works, and tried to incorporate as much of the nationalistic period vibe as we could in a Pirate MMO 'based' on historically accurate material. There still has to be an element of fantasy and film music to create the vibe for this game world, and I think you'll hear a bit of each in the score. You'll hear definite fugal writing, plenty of big action driven arrangements, some sensitive and romantic works, rolling travel pieces, ambient town faire, big percussion works, all with mix of live and sample based musicianship. |

Thursday, 26 July 2007 |
Firing Squad have put Rusty up against the wall and asked him some great questions about release, open beta and SOE...
Russell Williams: Flying Lab is an independent studio and that’s always a hard road. We’ve been diligent throughout this entire process, and our fans have been a big part of our success. The game is looking and playing great, and we are on track for a very strong release. When you buy the Pirates of the Burning Sea box at your local game store and bring it home, you’re going to get exactly what we wanted to give you. We can’t wait to see what you think!
It's a damn good interview, go see! |

More E3 Coverage.. Game Revolution |

Thursday, 26 July 2007 |
The MMORPG market is already glutted with wizards and orcs, so if any game stands a chance of wooing some players away from World of Warcraft, it might just be this semi-historical pirate MMO. How cool is that?
That quote's from Game Revolution's rather nice E3 coverage of Pirates of the Burning Sea.
