Tom "Rhaegar" Atkinson-Edwards, the ex-manager of this site, has moved up in the world! ¬_¬
He's now Flying Lab's new community team intern, and will be coordinating with Aether to provide funkalicious community-type stuff. He's done this kind of thing before for that spacey-type game Eve.
He'd better not forget us here at Coldfront and, heaven forbid, start eating pie. |

Troy "teaboy""Aether" Hewitt, community envoy of Flying Lab Software, has been interviewed by gaming site Hooked on Gamers.
It's a good interview, going into vague detail (oxymoron!) about several game systems and stuff.

Mr. Taylor "Augustus" Daynes, the lead designer type blokey for Pirates of the Burning Sea has been interviewed by top gaming-type website Ten Ton Hammer. In the interview, Augustus talks about animation, the storyline, class and faction difference, thunderstorms.. and drops a non-hint about the release date.
And also.. Treachery! That lubber Augustus declares his allegiance for pie rather than cake! That sadness-inducing pie be damned to Davey Jones'... |

Pirates of the Burning sea Community Envoy, Troy "Aether" Hewitt found time out from his extremely busy schdule (he's working weekends at the moment) to answer some questions for us guys here at Coldfront, and he manages to tease us with a glorious statement about the release date..
Also included in this interview are three exclusive screenshots showing two new ships - the Bark (a user ship, built by yours truly) and the Raft.

Jess Lebow on Dwarven Tavern Radio |

Jess Lebow, the content writer type lead dude for Flying Lab Software was interviewd at GenCon for Dwarven Tavern Radio.
First things first, you can hear that interview by clicking here. It's an MP3 file, on dwarventavern.net..
There's a few interesting snippets, particularly some new information about avatar combat which has already sparked serious discussion on the coldfront burning sea chatroom:
<[SoS]Toshiro> if avatar combat decides ship to ship boarding actions you might as well remove the ship bit of the combat
<[SoS]Toshiro> just go straight from nav to boarding
<Mersk> my fear is it would be a click fest, he who clicks fastest and has the better bandwidth wins, don't like that myself
<Mersk> Maybe the entire bording action result is not the result of your avatar combat, but more weighted to the crew stats, and the sword fight is just a happy clink clink bonk bonk sort of side show
<[FLS]Aether> Let's not jump the gun just yet.
<[SoS]Toshiro> ship vrs ship requires skill and judgement but 1 on 1 combat requires a fast machine and the abillity to repeatedly hit keys and get RSI
<[FLS]Aether> Tosh- Avatar combat will require the same mix of skill and tactics.
<[FLS]Aether> Let's hold off on judgement until you get your hands on it. Or frankly, until we get our hands on it.
<[FLS]Aether> These are processes and features that are in development. Nothing is set in stone until the fat lady dances.
<Xaphod> I just wanna make sure that if I board a sloop in a 104 that I can sit in my quarters sipping sweet tea while my crew gets on with the boarding.
<[SoS]Toshiro> i want to know that when i have sat off the stern of a frigate and poured 4 tonnes of grape shot into it not even a rat is going to be left to challenge a boarding action

Before launching an MMO there are many rumours, pieces of conjecture based on odd sentences snatched possibly out of context here and there.. sometimes too much is promised and the game ultimately fails to meet expectations.
In his article on gamesetwatch.com, MMOG nation, Michael Zenke explores the ways different RPGs handle news and discussion prior to release, with specific emphasis on how he feels Flying Lab are doing a good job with Pirates of the Burning Sea.
A good editorial style read. |
