Misha Becomes PotBS Producer After Joe Moves Elsewhere |

Misha has posted on the forums about her new promotion to Pirates of the Burning Sea Producer:
|
You've known me for years as "Inspector General" at Flying Lab. A title we made up to cover the fact that, for a while, I was more than just QA Manager but also managed the schedule and the Beta. Once Rev became Producer, I let him do the scheduling. And once we went Live (no more Beta), I let my QA Lead handle QA and I focused on Customer Service. I'm headed back into the scheduling and process arena with the title of Producer. Joe, and I can't believe I'm saying this, is headed to a local startup as their CTO. While I'm excited for him, he's been at FLS longer than anyone except Rusty and had quite a huge positive impact. He's leaving some big shoes to fill. (Seriously, he's like a size 17 or something.) But I like a challenge so here I go!

New Policies Regarding Multi Nation Accounts |

Monday, 30 June 2008 |
Aether has posted regarding FLS' new policy regarding multiple accounts :
While players are welcome to have as many accounts as they wish, people with multiple accounts are not allowed to have characters of differing nations on the same server. If a player is found in violation of this policy, they will be forced to either move or delete the character in violation. Repeat offenders will be subject to further disciplinary action, up to and including permanent suspension of their Pirates of the Burning Sea accounts.
[...]
From this point on, the selling of durability to pirates is a practice that is no longer allowed. Players who violate this policy will be subject to disciplinary action, with repeat offenders risking permanent suspension of their Pirates of their Pirates of the Burning Sea account.

The response to this has been.. colourful. |

Devlog: On Reimbursement of Loss |

Misha has posted a new devlog talking about how Flying Lab Customer Service looks at the issue of reimbursement:
|
For example, if you’re in a battle with another player and they pull their network cable, they shouldn’t immediately disappear and avoid being sunk. So they don’t – their ship remains in the zone until they’re out of combat or for 2 minutes. If they then claim they had a network disconnect and the ship that you sunk as it remained in the zone should be reimbursed, that’s an exploit. You now have a ship (if you’re a pirate) or at least the rewards for winning the fight AND he has the ship also. Suddenly, you can farm CSRs for first rates. That would be an untenable situation for the game for many reasons including economic and gameplay balance issues

Thursday, 19 June 2008 |
Russel "Rusty" Williams has posted a new devlog talking about the upcoming new free trials and marketing push:
|
Now that we’re finishing off 1.5, I thought I’d tell you about our upcoming plans for how we’re going to market Pirates. We’ve been waiting on 1.5 as it has lots of great fit and finish features that improve the game significantly. While there’s more to come in 1.6 (including new tutorials) we think 1.5 is the right build to start up the new marketing initiatives.

Mattt Posts More About Fortaleza Da Luz |

Mattttt has posted a new devlog talking about new level 50 epic mission Fortaleza da Luz:
|
So, what changed as a result of players testing Fortaleza da Luz? Many small things, but a few really big ones. We reached a point in the missions’ development where we felt that the difficulty was nearly tuned to perfection, and we were prepared to move on to bug fixing and polish exclusively. We fixed a number of bugs and when our players next played through the mission, they commented on the polish we’d added, but commented much more strongly that the mission was now far too easy. We took a look back at it, and found that the mission had aged far more quickly than we’d expected. A general overhaul of the difficulty ensued.

Nate, Flying Lab's Environment Lead has posted a new devlog talking about how they're working on revamping some of the town models:
|
For this last milestone one our tasks were to revamp some of the towns from their previous art. Some of them had become outdated and needed sprucing up, which gave us an opportunity to really piratize them!
