When I heard that the Burning Sea Community Website had an interview with a cartographer, naturally I assumed Mooper had been having open heart surgery, after having his heart broken once more...
Imagine my surprise when I discovered it was an interview with Johnathan White, the Map Maker commissioned by Flying Lab to create a ridiculously authentic map of the Caribbean.
Particlarly interesting is the fact that the art on the map will contain codes and clues relating to content in the game.
I want one. |

Allakhazam has, through the power of their Magical Realm, brought us some E3 footage of Pirates of the Burning Sea!
It's a great video showing some nice footage taken at E3 demoing the 104-gun ship, the nav zone, avatars, and so on. It's a great way to get a look at what the game's like running.
Have a look! |

My last recap was that I was going to E3 and getting to play PotBS. Well, RL came first and I made the no-brainer choice and stayed with family that needed me instead of going to E3. I'll never regret it for me personally, but it does put a damper on what I have for you. So I do have a little sadness in writing this weeks recap, because I had hoped to do it from underneath a bunch of swag that we could have given away. Ok, that's enough of that, you came here for game info and that's what we've got awaiting you inside. There's some great Beta information this week, along with E3 info, mission editors, user content, and more. In general, I also put a little more emphasis on the community, because as this game grows, the community has with it. You PotBS fans rule.. You freaking RULE.. Click the 'read more' link below and let's go.. |

E3 is all over now but that doesn't mean we're finished seeing articles popping up on websites.
Society of Gamers'article on the E3 2006 PotBS Demo is a good read, touching on some pertinent issues like Phys-x and how certain parts of the game will work. |

Ten Ton Hammer have published and article detailing their experience with PotBS when it was demo'd to them at E3 by Kevin "Isildur" Maginn.
Interestingly enough, the author of the article wasn't originally that interested in playing PotBS, but after the demo she decided she's going to subscribe. Thats promising news, eh?
You can read the article here. |

That's right folks.. STUFF has been coming in from E3 about Pirates of the Burning Sea.
Firstly, there are ooodles of excellent new screeenshots on IGN, and an IGN PotBS E3 article. The article is fairly good - a reasonable intro to the game, if a little light on new info. The screenshots though.. they're several shades of AWESOME.
Secondly there's a mention of PotBS on the easy to pronounce MMORPG.com's E3 Blog - not a lot of info.. well.. barely any.. but it compares contrasts it with Pirates of the Caribbean Online (which it turns out is going to be made for 10 year olds), so that's.. erm.. nice.
Thirdly, this post by the Witty, Talented and Sex-ay Jarvel mentions that Yar Radio (link on left) are having a bit of a PotBS E3 shindig.. or at least Aether's going to be saying something.. at about 11am Pacific, which is aboot 7pm UK time.
That's all so far, keep checking back. I'll keep my ear glued to the ground. Not literally. |

Flying Lab's Rusty let slip earlier in the week part of what their plans for E3 are:
At E3, we're going to be playing against the beta servers from the show floor, and the servers will be open to all the beta testers, so we should have some cool PvP fights!
Also, I hear that some E3 stuff is going to be broadcast on Yar! Radio starting at 9am Pacific, 5pm GMT
If you're AT E3, pop over to the Nvidia booth and say hi to the devs from us!
I for one can't wait to hear more about what everyone thinks about Pirates of the Burning sea; if you spot any E3 coverage of PotBS on any site drop us a line! |

It's practically an information overload at the moment, which is nice. A deluge of questions and a torrent of answers.
Firstly, we've got some extra information on how banking will work in the game on the Society of Gamers question of the week. To summarise:
- You can build warehouses as part of the economic system and they can store as much as you like, but are only accessible where they're built.
- Your personal wallet can hold as much money as you like and is 100% secure and always available.
The next load of questions is on the Game Transit Authority site, and asks Rev, Rusty and the tea boy.. er.. Aether twenty (mostly) excellent questions. It's a great read and I strongly recommend you check it out. A few bits particularly caught my eye:
- The combat model (somewhat influenced by Starfleet Command) is the main thing that makes PotBS stand out from other mmo games.
- Ships can be customised using outfitting and consumables can be used during battles to give a bonus.
- The servers are designed in a way that will minimise any downtime when the game goes live.
- Prominent players will be able to have statues built in their honour by competing in the port conquest RvR game.
- There ARE plans to add weather at a later date. This may be sooner than people think. (This is VERY interesting!)
- There will be (non-magical) 'Phat Loot' items.
- Distribution is still up in the air. Odd 'cause we all thought it would be through Steam. Something looks like it's changed here.

Tips to Help You Into BETA |

It's been revealed that a few more people have been added into beta. Congrats, and I hope you all have a nice time.
For those who aren't in beta yet, there is hope! Misha has posted a devlog offering advice into how you can tailor your beta application so that you're more likely to be accepted.
To be honest though, most of this information is pretty self-explanatory, and I think that if you can't fill in your ap properly then you're unlikely to be able to fill in bug reports properly. It's Darwinian, or something. |
