Written by Captain Obvious
Tuesday, 01 November 2005
St George's Squadron posted a review last month with some videos of actual gameplay from when Rusty visited them in Whitby, England. If you haven't already, you should really check it out - the videos need the volume turned up though, the sound is quiet.

Review is here.

Ahoy there!

I be your new cap'n, me name be Captain Obvious! My mission be to be as obvious as me parrot tells me to be, yarr!

Anyway, let the obviousness commence! Obviously, the site hasn't been going places in the ways that the staff here at Coldfront were hoping, so I brought me ship alongside this here vessel and boarded her, plundering her treasure for me and my crew!

I hope this will all be plain sailing, and I hope to breathe new life into the site. To coin a phrase... watch this space!

New Devblog! Massive Discussion Inbound!
Written by Kharnubis
Thursday, 06 October 2005

I just last night read the new devblog posted by flying lab, where it talks about how ships will be flagged in accordance with who sails them and how it affects the overall PvP system.

To sum it up shortly directly from the devblog, Isildur said:

".. a pirate in a naval warship should be a massive target. Everyone should be gunning for that pirate. So why not make him a PvP target? Thus, as designed, any pirate sailing a captured invalid ship is attackable anywhere in the world. This doesn't mean the pirate can attack people in PvE areas. It means that anyone else can initiate PvP combat against him, though. The British Navy can assemble a massive fleet, chase the pirate in the warship, and blow him out of the water for daring to steal His Majesty's property. And, of course, when sunk the pirate in the invalid ship loses that ship permanently, and must go capture another one. "

I know I for one felt greatly about this, so in a bit, I will put up a topic on the forums to debate this discussed feature.

Arr, thar be treasure! (DOWNLOAD SECTION)
Written by Kharnubis
Tuesday, 04 October 2005

Yarr! After a week's quietness in this here posting of mine, I have finally gotten the download section up!

Mainly the idea is to host any piratey related programs and/or skins provided by the lot of ye, or by us at coldfront, preferrably related to potbs. Right now it only has 1 item, which is a steam skin someone posted a link to once.

I'm not sure who made the skin, so if you download the skin and realise it's yours, please send me a message or tell me on IRC so that I can give you the proper credit for it..

To find the download section, log in (or create a user first and then log in) and look at the bottom in your "user menu" and click the link "Downloads", in there select "Skins" to get to the Steam skin I posted.

Also, go ahead and liven up the forums! Post the top 10 things, or as much as you can think of, on things you'd like to see on this site and give me general feedback, or just sit down with a mug of ale and relax *insert pirate smiley here*.

Thats about it for this time :) So what else to say then: Drink up me hearties yoho!

Shiver me timbers! Arr be spottin' a bottle with some parchment in it, get ahold of it lads!

 - After a few scurvy drunken sailors almost drowned and fell over each other the bottle is finally retrieved -

'bout bloody time! Now lets see what it says:

Hmm, 'tis some coordinates ta' be sure. It seems Flyinglab has, right under my (drunken) nose, released a trailer for their game 2 days ago, but I blame the extra strong rum I had for not spotting it earlier! (arr!), so without further delay, here it be, the trailer for Pirates of The Burning sea: TrailARR. - Enjoy!

Avast, what be this?? It seems there are more things written here..nay, 'tis pretty pictures! 3 new pretty pictures, arr and one of them seems to be portrait of my secret hideout..wait a moment, how did they find it?? who drew this!? I demand answers! ...hmm no one? might aswell show you the pictures anyway, since they are indeed pretty, but don't mind the mess:

Also there is a great deal of talking by Russell Williams, about the process of making the game and bringing it into beta and many aspects like that, you can read the entire original article here: IGN potbs Article

Or simply read it here on the site by clicking "read more".

That be all for today, but stay tuned for more! I plan ta put some tastey downloads up on the site soon : -)

Developer Chat in The House of Commons on Stratics
Written by Kharnubis
Tuesday, 20 September 2005
Avast ye landlubber! Oh have I got a treat fer ye, so pay attention! hehyarr.

Yesterday I joined in on a developer chat that stratics had in their House of Commons, where they had a 30 minute interview with one of the developers from Flyinglab about their new game, Pirates of the Burning Sea.

From what I could tell, some of the important questions were covered, but I think that one of the -most- important ones (which many will undoubtedly agree on), was strangely enough also the first question to be asked (Yarr!), such as when we can expect to recieve our confirmation emails, those of us who applied for beta. I can tell ye scurvy dogs right now, that according to what he said, we're looking at approximately 2 weeks or so!

Now instead of going into every bit of details about the interview, go ahead and head over to read the transcript of the interview here: Developer Interview

Arr, enjoy mateys! and may the winds keep yer sails full and the women in my..erh I mean yer beds hehyarr! :)

Prepare ta be boarded!
Written by Kharnubis

Set sails ye scurvy bilge rats! the Beta is now online and accepting applicants! Last one to get there be a smelly wench!

Avast ye flyinglab, prepare ta have ye game boarded!

Apply here: Beta

For those of you who still don't know what all this fuzz about, a news piece has been released by Flyinglab on the gamesite explaining things more clearly, part of it explains what the game actually is, and here's a quick quote from it to save you from having to go there yourself and read it.

"Set in the Caribbean in 1720, Pirates of the Burning Sea is a game of naval combat and conquest. Pirates, navy officers, and adventurers explore a world of danger, glory, and intrigue, fighting it out in real-time tactical naval battles. Every player is the captain of a ship right from the start, facing the challenges of a region in conflict. Britain, France, Spain, and the pirates go to war over the ports of their rivals in a strategic server-wide competition while individual players pursue their own destinies."

(Full news release)

The date for when we'll know who has been accepted for beta has not be set, other then the fact that they describe it as "later this fall", so it's just a matter of sitting tight and waiting. What else to say then Yarr! get me a bottle o' rum mateys!

Yarr!
Written by Kharnubis

Arr! I be bidding ye all welcome to this pretty new boat of mine. The Furious Skullcap I name her heh-yarr! - This is mostly a test post for my sake to see how this works.
Avast what be that I spot, be thar a beta yonder them waves??

Arr! Me hearties! lend me yer ears! (preferrably not monty-python style)

First of all, hello to you all, I'm Kharnubis and ill be commandeering this here pretty boat on the piratey seas of Pirates of The Burning Sea. So ahoy to ye, ye scurvy dogs!

As you all probably know, we are currently all awaiting the release of the Beta of this new MMORPG, which I have so far gathered, has a lot of people sitting in their chair all gittery with an eyepatch on and a drawn cutlass, drooling to invade it's vast seas.
Atleast thats more or less what I'm doing, arr!

As soon as the beta is released it will be posted here on this site, just incase you are too much of a lazy bilge rat to find out for yourself! yarr! :-)
A pirate smiley! I need a bloody pirate smiley! someone gimme one! Arr! *cough* anyway.

In the meantime however, if it hasn't been mentioned earlier, I encourage the lot of you to run over and check out the Features of this game, it's astounding in my opinion!

And just for good meassure I'd like to quote a key-text off of the feature site that I think has great relevance the value of this game:

"Whether your interest is in ship combat, piracy, commercial trading, or adventure, you have a role to play, and all your adventures take place in a dramatic world of conflict and change. A dynamic commodities market provides opportunity for clever traders to turn coin, navy missions throw you into the thick of combat, and pirates have ample targets for plunder. Our strategic gameplay keeps the world in flux, offering ample opportunities for both PvE missions and PvP battles & ambushes to affect the ongoing struggle. The Caribbean of 1720 is a world at war, and all players can take part on their own terms. Whether you want to join a major port conquest battle, pursue smuggling missions to help your side in secret, or organize your guildmates to bolster a port's defenses in the face of enemy plotting, you can be sure your efforts are meaningful and the stakes are very real."

This of course remains to be seen on how well they pulled this off. In other words, more waiting for the beta! We want the beta! YARR! I suspect maybe they are having difficulties, but who knows, only flyinglab.

And now, for something completely different! a boat!

Burning Sea, E3 and Beta!
Friday, 06 May 2005
Rusty posted some great news on the official forums. I quote "Pirates of the Burning Sea will start beta testing in the fall of this year and will be shipping later in the year." How long have you been waiting for those words for the question "when will the beta start?" :)

And as expected, flying labs will show off and demonstrate the game during E3 at the ATI booth (South Hall, #600).

Here's the link for the orginal post.
